The lay of the land as the birds (or angels!) see it: the two properties marked in yellow, Lost Reef Cottage to the L (rear) and the Mission to the R. As mentioned above, the Cottage sits adjacent to our other vacation rental property, The Mission (http://www.welcometothemission.blogspot.com/ ), and offers interesting possibilities for a reasonably priced family or group "compound" that is both completely delightful and wholly unique. We've had families rent both properties for larger groups or reunions, and they have thoroughly enjoyed feeling so at home so far from home. The panoramic pic above shows the two properties from ground level; another perspective is shown above.
Historically, the Cottage was part garage and part servants' quarters, and is fully detached from the house and in every sense its own full and complete residence. (We live in the "big house" on the L, and so are able to be available if needed, yet vigilantly protect your privacy. ) It is very much a cottage as you might have always imagined it, but never actually chanced upon. (I have noted that people are eager to label every conceivable property as a "cottage," even condo units. Here is the real thing.) This is the kind of feedback we've gotten back from some of our guests, and many of them have described the place as not only comfortable, but somehow comforting.
Which of course makes us feel really good about all of the love and care we've put into "making" the place. Truth is, we've had a great time all along the way.
We've been asked whether the two properties share a garden. In a sense they do, and in another they each offer highly unique "green" retreats that are more private. Upon entering the side entrance (the yellow garden gate in the above pic), there is a shared garden area:
Cottage and coral reef straight ahead, Mission to the R. The more private garden areas are a wonderful sitting area to the left of the Cottage (basically, its side yard), and the Mission's backyard.
